Project grants through the CityLAB

Do you have a project of your own that you’d like to develop further here in the CityLAB, but you lack the financial means to do so? Apply for our funding program!

What kinds of projects do we support?

We are able to offer this opportunity thanks to a funding line established by the Berlin Senate Chancellery. They are interested in supporting projects that “make a contribution to the fields of digital government, social innovation and/or smart cities, as well as that offer technical solutions for enhancing citizen engagement and participation.” Projects need to have a clearly stated goal that can be realistically achieved within the prescribed time period. When is the deadline for submissions?

The deadline to be included in the next round of funding is October 27, 2019. The earliest possible start date for projects is January 1, 2020.

What types of costs are eligible for funding?

Eligible costs are personnel costs, honorariums for external contributors, material costs, and travel expenses.

What is the maximum amount I can apply for?

The maximum amount is 50.000€. Smaller proposals are welcome as well.

What does the application process look like?

For the first step, applicants only need to submit a completed application form and their projected expenses for the project. Both can be sent to call@citylab-berlin.org. All submissions will be evaluated by the CityLAB advisory board. If we have questions about your application, we’ll reach out. In case of a positive review, we’ll ask you to submit a formal grant application with the Senate Chancellery. We’re happy to assist applicants with completing this step.
